50-year-old Mark Latunski is being charged with the murder and mutilation of 25-year-old Kevin Bacon. Bacon was last seen on Christmas Eve when he told his roommate he was meeting a man from the LGBT dating app Grindr. The roommate later received a message from Bacon claiming he wouldn’t be home until the next morning, he was later reported missing when he didn’t arrive at his parents’ house on Christmas Day. Michigan State Police were granted permission to search Latunski’s house upon arrival and later found Bacon’s body hanging from the ceiling. They placed Latunski in custody and was taken to Shiawassee County Jail, where he later confessed to the murder of Bacon. “Mr. Latunski stated he used a knife, stabbed him in the back one time, then slit his throat,” according to the testimony of Detective Sergeant James Moore. “Afterwards, Mr. Latunski stated he wrapped rope around the ankles of Mr. Bacon, and hung him from the rafters on the ceiling.” According to WILK News 10, Latunski is not a stranger to the police since he has a previous charge to kidnapping 2 out 4 of his children. The charges were dismissed after several hearings. According to Mlive.com, Latunski was diagnosed with “major depression, paranoid schizophrenia and traits of a personality disorder in 2010 and 2012”. Latunski is expected to appear in court January 8th and held without bail. Bacon’s father said to Flint Journal MLive “Evil does exist and it touched us,” “It’s gut-wrenching to hear the details and we’re beside ourselves,”. He described his son as “a good person who was passionate and cares for people.” Pamela Bacon, who is the mother of Kevin Bacon, still in shock over what has happened has said “He got himself into something he wasn’t prepared for and we all make mistakes,” she told Flint Journal MLive. Bacon’s grandmother Grace Bacon said she couldn’t imagine the “horror at what his killer put him through”. “No one should have to face this simply because he [Kevin] was hungry for the affection of a man,” she wrote on Facebook. “He was vulnerable and chose a dangerous way to find this affection.” Grace Bacon used to be a part of a transgender advocacy group called Crossroads. She told Pride Source “I know this is going to draw some negative comments from a lot of people, saying more guns on the street is not going to be solving anything,” She wrote in a Facebook post to ask the LGBT community to arm themselves and stop being “a soft target and easy prey.” Jamie Arnold is Latunski’s husband of three years. He told MLive.com “he wasn’t aware of Mark Latunski’s mental illnesses until July, when he was arrested for failing to pay child support”.  “To my knowledge, I couldn’t force him to see a therapist or take medication,” Arnold said. “Never in a million years did I think he’d be capable of doing such a horrendous crime.” “In hindsight, it’s easy to sit back and speculate but at the time you’re going through it there are emotions and feelings involved. You don’t want to think that the person you fell in love with is some crazy homicidal maniac,” Arnold said. “I pray that God is there for Kevin Bacon’s family in their time of need and that He helps us all get through this, one day at a time.”
