Why the Bruins are the Dirtiest Team in the League

Out of all 31 teams in the NHL, the Bruins are considered to be the dirtiest. Majority of hockey fans actually bond over their hatred for the Bruins. Bruins fans call it jealousy, but is it really? Here’s how the Bruins have risen to be known as the dirtiest team in the league.

Brad Marchand: Although Brad is known of the best players in the league, he’s often known as one of the dirtiest. Brad Marchand is a 31 year old, left winger for the Bruins. He’s actually the primary reason why the Bruins are considered to be the dirtiest team. He even earned the nickname “rat”. He’s known for licking other players to get to them and distract them from the game. He’s gotten in trouble for this many times, by the league, as it is a huge health risk to many. He’s known for his dangerous, unnecessary, and dirty hits against other players. Unfortunately, it’s quite often when Marchand makes really dirty hits and sometimes faces little to no punishment for it. When asked about his dirty hits, he makes statements along the lines of “it is what it is” and has a “whatever” attitude in regards to it. Should your attitude really be “whatever”? When you purposely injure another player? I don’t think so. It’s kinda messed up, but that’s hockey. But hey, at least my hatred of Brad Marchand has lead me to bond with other hockey lovers from other teams.

David Pastrnak: Pastrnak is known to be one of the top point scorers in the league, however, to get those points, I feel like he plays dirty in order to get them. He’s made many illegal hits against others and has been suspended from games for punishment. Sometimes, he’s even been charged for his hits. In hockey, sometimes it’s hard to avoid making certain hits on others but many of his dirtiest hits were avoidable, and could’ve caused serious injuries. Although he’s not as dirty as Marchand, he definitely sometimes plays like it.

Those 2 players, i’d say, are the dirtiest on the team. They do work with other players to perform dirty hits, which often makes other players look dirty as well. Bruins players are known to be very rough, mean, and “goonish”. They also love fighting and cursing on the ice.

The worst thing about these players’ dirty hits is that they don’t always get penalized for them. The NHL loves to turn a blind eye when it comes to their unnecessarily, dirty hits. I think that’s what bothers all hockey fans the most, that they don’t get penalized for their actions.

The last thing that adds onto the Bruins being a dirty team, is their fanbase. No shade against Bostonians, but Boston fans in general, no matter what sport, are known to be rude and are willing to fight. They’re often mean and can’t accept a loss. My experience with them is that all they do is trash talk and resort to yelling/cursing as a counterargument to why their team lost. Whenever they do win, they rub it in snobbily and in a rude manner. Most people can agree that the Bruins fanbase is one of the worst in all sports.

As a Lightning fan, I can say my own team can be dirty too. All teams can be dirty, but definitely not as dirty as the Bruins. I’m just happy to remember we’re 2-0 against them this season and beat them 4-1, in the second round of the playoffs, back in the 2017-2018 season 😉 . The Lightning face the Bruins again on March 3, 2020 and on March 7, 2020.
