Why the Lightning Deserve a Stanley Cup the Most

If you didn’t know, the Tampa Bay Lightning have only one Stanley Cup, and it’s from 2004. Shocking? It might be to you, as it’s shocking to me as an avid hockey watcher. I’ve been a Lightning fan since I was a kid, I even remember my first game, who it was against, and how I reacted, when I found out I was going to my first ever hockey game. Being a Lightning fan during the regular season is mostly great, until the playoffs come around, then that’s where our downfall starts.

The Lightning are known for “choking”, which is really unfortunate we’re put into the category of teams across the horizon who regularly “choke”. Why are we known for that? Well, in the past years, we’ve broken many team records and league records. We’ll do outstanding during the regular season, win trophies, sign all-stars, but still go to the playoffs and lose. A prime example, and probably the most embarrassing, is the 2018-2019 season.

In the 2018-2019 season, the Lightning excelled extremely. We were the best team in the league for the majority of the season, by a long shot. We actually won the Presidents trophy (the trophy given to the team with the most points), before the season even ended. We clinched a playoff spot, very early, before anyone had the chance to.

Finally, another reason I feel like we deserve a cup is because of our roster. We have all-stars, Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and Steven Stamkos. Other than them, we have so many great players that continuously score points and make NHL highlights. Our team is known to be “stacked”.

No team really “deserves” a cup but, I feel like we have worked so hard in the previous years, we should have more than 1 by now. If we learn to work together as a team, and not choke when it matters, I think we will have another Stanley Cup in the next 5 years.
