In current times, everything has stopped in its tracks from music, fashion, to film. Everyone was blind-sided with the “last days”. The last days of school, last days of work, and the last days of fashion week. No one expected designers to come back full swing just after a year of everything being put on hold. But Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Miu Miu proved everyone very wrong. These past few weeks have really shocked the fashion world at the Milan fashion week. Dior took a dark, twisted turn on fashion with a gothic/grunge inspired show at the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles but instead of the typical reflective surfacesartist Silvia Giambrone, took wax and covered the mirrors with wax and pierced thorns through to intensify to eerie aesthetic that, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, channeled through the stars of the show.

The style of gothic era has returned through Dior’s take on the very dark world of fairy tales. According to The New York Times, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s inspiration were the stories written to alert children that the world can be dangerous place, not the ones with happy endings. It has a young persona come through with school skirts but then the edge pops out with the leather accents, chunky platform boots, and studded beltsChiuri really took Milan by storm with her show, “Disturbed Beauty”.

On the other hand, Miu Miu took their show all the way up to the Dolomites, which is covered in a blanket of snow which made the pieces pop. Designer, Miuccia Prada, wanted to include the elements of the Dolomites into her show and really capture the essence of winter with crocheted masks, fur lined coats, and beautiful pastels on every pieceVia zoom, Mrs. Prada noted that what most people probably don’t know about her is that she loved the mountains. She wanted to make this show personal yet gorgeous.

Most of the shows were accessed via zoom in the comfort of the viewers home and the models are tested for Covid-19 daily with instant results and anyone who did attend the show went home and mandatorily quarantined so these artists could efficiently share their work with the world in a safe manner. In hopes of one day going back to lined rows of seats filled with brilliant individuals, fashion week prevails on.
