Prince Philip Dead at 99

On April 9th 2021 Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh died at the age of 99. Prince Philip was married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years.

Prince Philip was born on June 10th 1921 in Greece. His parents were prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and the Princess Alice of Battenberg. He was the only son out of five children that his parents had. According to ‘’ Philip had connections to the British Royal Family, as through his maternal family he was the great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria. Philip was a member of the House of Glucksburg, the ruling house of Denmark’’. When Philip was younger, at the age of 21 he joined the royal Navy during World War 2 and at just 21 he met his future wife Queen Elizabeth at the time (Princess Elizabeth). Their wedding was in November of 1947, where he was given the title of Duke of Edinburgh by King George. Then Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip had their first baby together Prince Charles.

Prince Philips funeral plans are to be determined because of covid-19. But as of now they will be doing eight days of national mourning. According to  ‘’ His body will, instead of lying in state, lie at rest in Windsor Castle ahead of the funeral in St George’s Chapel’’.  The queen also does not want people to gather in crowds due to the coronavirus.

The United Kingdom is in mourning and most likely won’t be the same without Prince Philip. We now have to wait and see what the future holds for the UK.
