Tampa Bay Lightning Beat New Jersey Devils in Outstanding Overtime Dub!

Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay Lightning center, scores outstanding game winning goal in overtime against New Jersey Devils on 10/30/19!

  On October 30th, 2019, the Tampa Bay Lightning ( 5-4-2) played against the New Jersey Devils ( 2 – 4 – 3) at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. 

Fans assumed this was going to be an easy win for the Lightning, but the Devils put up quite the fight. For the Lightning, backup goaltender, Curtis McElhinney was in net. For the Devils, goaltender Cory Schneider was in net.

In first period, Devil’s player, Kyle Palmieri scored the first goal of the game. Then Lightning players, Ondre Palat and Alex Killorn scored a total of two goals, ending first period at 2-1, Lightning.

In second period, Devil’s player, Jesper Bratt scored the first goal. Then the Lightning’s allstar forward, Brayden Point, made a goal. Unfortunately, Devil’s players, Kyle Palmieri and Jesper Bratt, scored two more goals, giving them the lead of 4-3.

In third period, the Lightning were seeking revenge. To start out the game, Devil’s player, Sami Vatanen, scored a goal, putting them in a two goal lead. The Lightning decided to come back strong. Lightning players, Anthony Cirelli, Mathieu Joseph, and Ondre Palat, scored a total of three goals, putting them in a 6-5 lead. They were expecting to win it all there, but Devil’s player, Kyle Palmieri scored the hat-trick of the game with 6 seconds left on the clock, tying the game at 6-6, and sending the teams into overtime.

In overtime, only 1:16 minutes into the game, Lightning center, Tyler Johnson, scored the game winning goal! The final score was 7-6, Lightning. Because of this win, the Lightning’s current record is 6-4-2, and they’re ranked 6th in the Atlantic division. The next game is on November 1st, 2019, against the New York Islanders, at Nassau Coliseum, in Uniondale, New York. Let’s hope for another great win from the Lightning!
