Global Warming an on Going Issue

Julie Franklin, Writer

In the early 19th century the scientific discovery of climate change was made. The idea of global warming began when ice ages, and other natural phenomena were suspected. The definition of global warming is identified as a “gradual increase of the overall temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by higher levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

There are many scientists that believe that the Earth’s rising temperatures are causing natural disasters to have a greater energy and have bigger and a more devastating impact on our environment. For example, these scientists believe the warming of the Earth causes more frequent droughts, powerful hurricanes, heavier rainfall, etc. Antarctica has been losing around 134 billion metric tons of ice per year since 2002. In recent years, China has been said to have been the leader in pollution causing climate change, producing around 28% of all CO2 emissions with the United States coming in at second with 16%.

Despite there being so much evidence that global warming exists and is an extremely pressing issue for our planet, there are many people that believe the evidence surrounding climate change is not convincing enough to slow mass production rates in factories by trying to find safer less polluting solutions. Despite 97% of scientists who believe that global warming exist, there are another 31,000 that say otherwise. One thing is for sure, to investigate and try to even tackle this issue, will take serious reformation of factories and emission fuels.
